FIERI Boston's Community Involvement

Although FIERI Boston is not a charitable organization per se, we wholeheartedly encourage our members to "give back" to the community through volunteerism. Here are some of the ways in which we have gotten involved with local charities recently:

In October 2006, several FIERI Boston members volunteeed at the Gerardo Nigro Memorial Foundation "Spaghetti and Swing" fundraiser.

Proceeds from the event were used to purchase Italian-language textbooks for the students at East Boston Central Catholic school.

In November 2004, FIERI Boston held a Positive Image Movie Night where the movie Ciao America was shown. Admission to this event was a donation of canned goods, which were later distributed to the needy families at the Crossroads Shelter in East Boston MA.

In December 2004, FIERI Boston once again was able to collect a carload of toys for the homeless children at the Crossroads Shelter. Thanks to everyone who donated!

In December 2002, FIERI Boston raised $160 plus a huge pile of toys, which will be distributed to needy children at the Crossroads shelter in East Boston. The toys were collected at the FIERI Boston Annual Xmas Party, held at the Boston Logan Airport Hilton.

FIERI Boston was also able to collect another huge pile of toys for the children at the Crossroads Shelter at our 2003 Xmas Party.

On September 26, 2002, FIERI Boston participated in the annual Light the Night walk on behalf of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Massachusetts.

Approximately 15 FIERI Boston members took part in the 1.1 mile walk around Boston Common under the direction of co-captains Sal Di Stefano and Steve Skalish. (Pictures from the walk will be available soon.)

Team FIERI Boston was able to raise more than $2600 for cancer research! We exceeded our goal of $2000, and are already planning for next year's walk.

We are also happy to report that the FIERI Staten Island chapter also took part in their local Light the Night walk. Their goal was to assemble 75 walkers and raise $10,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

At FIERI Boston's Spaghettata Fundraiser (July 27, 2002), approximately $400 was raised for the Maurizio Sisia Charitable Foundation. This amount helped to defray medical expenses for a police officer from Pisa, Italy who needed treatment for a degenerative eye condition.

In December 2001, FIERI Boston donated the toys collected from our Xmas Party Toy Drive to homeless children from Peabody, MA.

In addition to FIERI Boston's group volunteerism, several of our members have individually taken part in charitable events or fundraisers, including:

  • Avon 3-Day Breast Cancer Walk
  • Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk
  • Walk for Hunger
  • Parkinson's Foundation Walk
  • American Stroke Association Marathon in Kona, HI
  • Boston Shines citywide cleanup day

FIERI Boston would like to thank its members for their service and dedication.
