FIERI Boston's 4th Annual La Befana Regifting
Party
La Summa Restaurant, North End, Boston
January 9, 2007
FIERI Boston's La Befana Regifting Party is our way of
celebrating the Italian tradition of "La Befana", but with a
twist!
As the tradition goes, an old woman ("La
Befana") is visited by the Magi, who invite her to travel with them
in search of the Christ Child. However, she declines to accompany the
Magi, saying how she has to stay home and sweep the house. After the Magi
leave, she regrets her decision and then goes off on her own to search
for the Christ Child, leaving presents for every child along the way.
In Italy, little children look forward to receiving gifts from La Befana
each January 6 (the Feast of the Epiphany).
A few years ago, FIERI Boston started
a new tradition of holding a Yankee Swap to re-gift unwanted holiday presents
(a la George Costanza from Seinfeld!). This year's event did not disappoint.
The most sought-after gift was the Clown-Faced Tissue Box Holder. A few
gifts from previous years, such as the Rabbit-In-A-Hat Toothpick Holder
and the Dancing Santa Banjo Bear made encore appearances as well! Everyone
had a great time and a lot of laughs.
As Sanford & Son might have once said
...

One person's junk is another person's
... junk!
